This might be helpful for those who are considering adding curcumin to their diet.

Thanks Sandy, it's been interesting reading the recent forum posts on this. I've gone ahead and ordered some for myself ... maybe it'll help me with some reactive arthritis I am having trouble getting rid of. It's supposed to be one of those things that is in 95% of cases reversed within 6 months. The doctor is not keen to medicate strongly for it, and nor am I.

David.

hi David,

I hope adding curcumin  helps.... I shared the link because there are lots of different supplements out there. It is expensive too. I have been taking 2 x 500mg curcumin per day and find my knee pain and muscle strength has definitely improved. I also take 500 - 1000mg Via B3 per day  in the form of Niacinamide (no flush). This has greatly improved all kinds of symptoms, including joint pain and muscle weakness.

Sandy

Thank you Sandy for posting the website on Curcumin.  I found it interesting that curcumin and bioperine is also good for COPD; which I have severe emphysema with 30% lung function.  I ordered what was recommended from the site; I'm confused on how much to take.  I bought the 1500 mg curcumin with 10mg bioperine per capsule.  The bottle suggests 3 capsules 1-2 times daily; which seems like a lot.  So I started out with one capsule per day.  Not sure if this will be enough.  Any thoughts?

History: Diagnosed March 2016; 400mg gleevec to present.  Last blood work was Nov. 2017, .06 % IS.

Thanks, Kathy

Hi Kathy,

Research has shown that 8 grams of standarized Curcumin is needed per day to effect cancer cells in vivo.

Some Curcumin formulations boast of higher bio-availability (w/ bioperine ...aka pepper, nanoparticles, etc.) which may indicate less dose will work.

I take about six grams of Curcumin per day of the kind that is purported to be more bioavailable (C3 complex from Sabinsa)

One additional note - although it was my CML that motivated me to take Curcumin. The main benefit I am experiencing with Curmin is the elimination of arthritis and my skin has changed dramatically.

My family has a history of arthritis. I was beginning to feel the onset, but after starting Curcumin, my joint pain (very minor, just beginning) disappeared. I mean it is gone. I ave no joint issues. I credit Curcumin. Also - my skin looks 10 years younger.

If I were to be magically "cured" of CML, I would continue to take Curcumin.

(side note: Curcumin is a cox-2 inhibitor similar to aspirin. This is its main action in fighting inflammation/pain such as headache and joint pain. It is also a mild blood thinner (help prevent heart attack) in the same way aspirin works)

Knowing that I won't die from CML but from the COPD and that the benefits from curcumin helps both is definitely a plus.  I appreciate all your feedback.

Thank you!
