Update

Hallo,

Hope you are all well!

I thought I would update on my situation after hearing from Amanda. I am 34 and was diagnosed in 2001 in chronic phase. I came off Gleevic in 2005 to have a child. We had to have IVF due to male factor but luckily it worked first time for us. My lovely daughter has just turned two and is completely healthy! I took interferon during my pregnancy.

Within 3 months after retaking Gleevic after giving birth, I was back at zero. Amazingly, another miracle is due in May. I came off Gleevic again last year and had IVF (again it worked straight away for us!) and am now expecting another little girl in just over 10 weeks. The pregnancy is sofar uncomplicated.

My hubby and I can´t believe how lucky we have been. My daughter is the sunshine in my life and I can´t wait to hold my second bundle of joy in my arms!

My very best wishes to you all!

Sharon

hello Sharon,
what fantastic news........ your story will give great hope to those who want to have children but feel they do not want to risk their response to Glivec. using INF to keep the residual disease under control is increasingly another option for the long term control for CML patients with low pcr's. even when there is no pregnancy.
i assume -as you are in Germany- that you are using low doses of Peg.IFN?

this form of IFN has a much less onerous side effect profile, but as far as i know it is not available on the NHS in the UK.

thanks so much for sharing you news.
love,
Sandy ;o)

How wonderful to hear about someone who is living such a 'normal' life with CML. I was diagnosed 2.5yrs ago when 12 weeks pregnant. I carried on with the pregnancy while taking Interferon and now have a wonderful perfect boy who is the light of my life! I have responded well to Glivec my last PCR was 0.02 and I am waiting for my latest results which are due in next week. My first responce to such a low PCR was great I feel normal I have returned to work ( part time due to my son) now lets get on with things. I also wanted to try for another baby my doctors seem more hesitant they seem worried about me developing drug resistant mutations and want me to continue with Glivec and give up on another baby. I would be grateful for any info that you have which you found helpful.
Good luck with the next 10 weeks and the delivery.
Best Wishes
