Hi I am on the BMS trial for dasatanib and have had a good response in terms of control of my CML. However, I experience a lot of mucular skeletal pain particularly at night. Also have had great difficulty sleeping since being on the drug, sometimes going many nights without sleep. Just wondering if anyone else has had similar side effects from dasatanib?

side effects dasatinib
Hi Gymima,
My son, age 10, recently switched from Imatinib to Dasatinib. The drug is approved in U.S. Anyway, while there will always be some side effects with any chemotherapy medication, we have found that the muscular pain is less with Dasatinib so far.
Initially, my son had great pain when starting dasatinib, but it lessened over time. Now there's hardly any pain. He had intense muscular pain, headache & diarhea. That has subsided.
Studies have indicated that the pain does become less with Dasatinib over time. It was a relatively short period where my son experienced pain with the new medication. Now, he's virtually pain free (except for experiencing some short term memory loss - another known side effect.)
Good luck.

Hi Gymima
Been on Dasatinib (Sprycell for nearly two years now, as you say results are better than with Imatinib, not too many problems with skeletal pains, just very occaisional now, fluid retention needs watching though, daily check on the scales tells when medication is necessary, a single dose does the trick, have found that I don't have the same energy that I had with Imatinib, but small price to pay, now taking the fight to the cml, rather than the reverse. See how you go after a while.
Keep trying, keep smiling and always have fun

Hi Gymima,
I changed from Glivec to Dasatinib February this year. Initially I found side effects far less on Dasatinib, but these have recently built up, initial ones subsided. Insomnia and pain are being helped at night with 10mg Amitryptaline. This is a treatment I have heard other users being given, the only problem being that it can cease to help after a period of time. At the moment, I'm trying to find the right time in the evening to take it as, left too late, I can be rather hung-over in the mornings, but this does pass. I have found that my Oncologist is very unaware and somewhat disinterested in side effects, but that my GP is much better at helping me.
Wishing you all the best.
