hi havent posted for a long time now but was dignasosed with cml in 2004 and have been on glivec ever since and in remission for 4 years now .,iam now 34 years of age and have been off glivec for 8 months now as i was advised by a professor in liverpool i could come off it to try and have a child ,but no luck at the moment im  now going down the route of fertility treatments to quicken the process up .still havent iregular periods dont know where iam from one month to the next .

its a very stressful time making sure your count doesnt go back up but also to have a child would be fab but if my count starts to go back up which it will then i will only be thinking of myself because i will have no choice (life sucks sometimes) would love top share other coments

Hi Claire,

At the Hammersmiths patient support meeting on the 8th Jan this year this very subject was bought up by a  a cml sufferer similar to you.

Professor Jane Apperley said that at HH the regime would be to come off for 6 months. If after that period nothing had happened then should go back on drug for a period and the wait for a while before coming off glivec before starting IVF. the period off 6 months was quoted as being ok because if you fell pregnant during this time then you would have to add 9 months to that 6 months and then maximum 6 weeks extra for breast feeding if this was absolutely necessary and depending on blood counts. (Total 15 months plus 6 weeks)

This is a males perspective of what was said and understood so I hope it helps you.

Good luck and wish you well.

Steven
