BMT

Hi all, this is just a quick update to let you know where I am following my reduced intensity BMT.

I am + 21 days today and feeling very well! I am going to the apartment in Bristol and will attend the hospital now for bloods etc starting Friday. unfortunately I was under the impression the whole process would be about 90 days, but the consultant is saying 90 days from now, so that was a bit of a blow. it things might change!

Although the fatigue is difficult to manage I feel very well. I have a small amount of GVHD, that's good and all my bloods are doing well. WBC 16, platelets 600 plus. so no transfusions needed there! just the odd bag of magnesium.

I have had a relatively easy time, with the odd worry thrown it to keep them on their toes! I have had the most fantastic care, no compromises. not out of the woods yet so counting my blessings by the day.

I am stuck for words about my donor, I know the match was very very close, he is 24 years old, so young to do something so like this is amazing. there are lost of cells frozen as he produced over 400!

All the best to you all.

Dear Ali,
I follow your caringbridge posts carefully and I am pleased to hear you have reached the bit where you 'escape'and after only 21 days after your SCT! I am sure being semi-independent from the hospital will encourage you even more. Just take each day as it comes- obvious I know but a good attitude in these kinds of circumstances- and you will be at one with your donor cells before you know it.

Best wishes,
Sandy
