Hi Has anyone managed to get specialist Scuba Diving cover which includes CML? I have travel insurance which covers me with an exclusion on CML direct or indirect events, and does cover diving, but I'd like a specific scuba policy and the standard, DAN, will not cover CML at all. I'll still go, with or without cover, but with is always nice! Rod

Hi Rod.
Divemaster here ...
The way I look at it is can a diving accident be attributed to CML? So long as your bloods are in good shape, and you are not anaemia, or very low in Hb then I don't think so.
Your regular travel insurance will cover you for diving, but may not cover you for CML. I spoke with my travel insurers (Vitality and Lloyds Bank) and high assured me that something like a barotrauma injury would absolutely be covered, no issues.
Why do you want SCUBA specific insurance? It's generally not worth it unless you dive a lot. For your average recreational diver, a normal travel policy usually suffices.

I was a diving instructor before Cml
A factor you need to consider would be down to the interaction between medication, absorbsion rates and the risk of bends or nitrogen narcosis.
Due to the nature of the disease I would speak to a dive doctor for advice as to what additional risk we may be exposed too.
I asked the question a few years back but struggled to get any answer.
I ended up giving up my diving career due to the uncertainty and problems with insurance.
Hope this helps
If you do dive just be aware as to how you feel and stay safe.
