Imatinib and Tetanic Contractions

Categories:

I have been on imatinib for 5 years. My BCR/ABL is good. No detectable disease for the past 2 years. However, I have developed tetanic contractions in my legs and feet. This occurs in the morning and during exercise. I take Citrical petites 2x per day; 400 mg magnesium 1 x per day. Any thoughts or solutions would be welcomed.

Sd, if you haven't yet reduced your Imatinib dosage, you should certainly begin to do so.

I never knew that those symptoms were referred to as Tetanic contractions. I had a lot of that on Imatinib. Ya they are the worst. I had to watch how vigorously I worked out at the gym. Probably reducing your dose will help but then your numbers may suffer. Take it slow, consult with your oncologist, see what others say here in this forum, and maybe consider moving to another TKI if it gets worse. I must say switching to Nilotinib really helped reduce those side effects. But then again you have new ones to replace the old ones.
