Eye pain and Sprycel / Dasatinib

Categories:

Hi All,

I’ve been on Sprycel for 6 months now having being diagnosed in 2020. I’m thankfully not experiencing any side effects really except that over the past months I’ve had increasing eye pain. It feels sometimes like it’s in the sockets of my eyes, but otherwise it’s just a general aching and fatigue. Has anyone else experienced this? I’m completely open to the fact it could just be too much work / screen time etc.. But it’s the only notable change I have felt since starting the medication.

If anyone has experienced this, any tips for relieving the pain?

It’s difficult to describe but yes I get eye ache since being on Nilotinib. Sometimes as you say feels like the sockets or the eyeball. Only experienced since being on meds. I can feel the ache when I rub my eyes too. It’s not constant but it’s defo there sometimes. Why I have no idea, but I don’t worry about it....

I have an ache in my left eye that comes and goes. I am also on sprycel. When it happens I just try to drink more water. It tends to get better.

In the medical literature there is quite a bit written on occular toxicity and tki s and in United States the FDA has  published some label notes re eye side effects  for each of the tkis that are on offer for CML.So for instance occasional blurred vision, eye pain and eyelid and tiisue disturbance are quite common.A while back when I had my cataracts done my eye surgeon/specialist stressed the importance of CML patients with eye issues to have regular checks;most opticians now have the equipment to for instance to scan the rear of the eye and the optic nerve for any damage. In addition any issue with the retina needs fairly rapid medical attention.

My view would be that any prolonged eye pain associated possibly with medication such as a tki needs a check up with an optomotrist to check for any serious side effect. However there are a number of eye issues that are associated with tkis that are not so severe and that we just have to live with as annoying side effecfs.

John

I too have eye pain. It feels sometimes like nerve pain. Didn’t even think it could be related to the TKI. Interesting.
