Covid vaccination Spring 2025

Hi All in UK,

I have just had another shot of the Covid vaccination-this time it was Moderna .I suffered just a sore arm but otherwise I had no other side effects.

Those who qualify are over 75s and those who because of their condition or treatment may be immuno -suppressed-blood cancer is a specified condition.

In my area a number of pharmacies (not GPs this time) are offering appointment and walk ins as well-if under 75 I suggest you take along either a clinic letter or the tki medicine box just to prove your eligibility.Locally to me there is lots of availability as there appears to be no national advertising going on at present. The Spring programme ceases in mid June.

Alternative arrangements may exist for Scotland and Wales.

Regards

John

Hi John,

I got a text message saying it was time for mine, and like you it was at a pharmacy but I had to book - no walk in available near me. But may as well have made no difference as there were loads of appointments.

I suspect the lack of national advertising is because they know the target group well now, and are able to reach out more directly.

David.

I had a call from my GP Surgery for mine and booked it but as i needed to change it and it is a pain doing that with my GP's system i cancelled it there and re booked at a local pharmacy. No problem getting an appointment and i had been there for previous ones when i had proved the blood cancer. I was asked why i needed it when i got there but it wasn't questioned and no proof was asked for but i did have a medicine box with me just in case. It was Moderna and no real problem apart from the arm ache for 24 hours.

I was also told by my GP surgery that my blood cancer qualified me for a shingles vaccine early. That was much more painful and my arm was hot, achy and itchy for about a week. Not looking forward to the 2nd one.

Thanks for the heads up.
Here in the states there is no talk at all of the new Covid shot.
I’m wondering if it will either be ignored altogether or denied to us by law…

Good for you John. Glad there were no complications.

Joe
